The GOR : Apollo Bay to Port Campbell

Image
I now know what people mean by "Victoria can have all 4 seasons in one day".  We haven't had snow but it has been everything else but not quite hot enough to take your clothes off for a swim, not for us anyway! We arrive at Apollo Bay in sunshine but left in rain.  We only found out about the lookout above Apollo Bay the evening before we left when our host asked us if we had been up there.  It is on private land but has amazing views over the Town.  I guess that is why it isn't on maps nor are there signs to it.  There is a sign once you are there however!  So my photos will start with that. Apollo Bay Mariners Lookout Apollo Bay was a vibrant town, it reminded me of a busy seaside resort in the UK.  Its beach is sheltered and it is surrounded by the beautiful Great Otway National Park.  It has something for everyone. Great Otway National Park Mait's Rest Most of the walks we have come across are either too long or too rugged for us to cope with ...

Cape Otway Telegraph Station This telegraph station used Morse Code.  They had two plaques: One with morse code letters on the other held a selection of sentences written in Morse Code.  See if you can decipher them.  Good luck.

The Great Ocean Road : Torquay to Apollo Bay

The Great Ocean Road starts at Torquay and ends at Allansford.  There is so much to see and so we are moving along the road every couple of days.  Each move I will do another post to save them getting too long.  We will be visiting most of the points of interest along the route so will try to name them all.  There will be a lot of pictures of the ocean - hopefully you will love the scenery as much as we do. Torquay We arrived in Torquay by 3.00pm and what a lovely place.  Just as picturesque as its UK namesake.  We sat on their equivalent of a promenade and watched the swimmers and surfers for a couple of hours.  We were actually waiting for the fish restaurant to reopen at 5pm but it was a good use of our time!!   We were staying above the town in a chalet a couple had just finished converting in Jan Juc.   It was lovely and we were very sorry to only be staying the 1 night.   We left Torquay on a dismal rainy morning but...

Melbourne

Unfortunately our hotel choice in St Kilda advertised Wifi but it was non-existent and so I am now a little behind on the blog.  It also said "shower" - what it didn't say was that the water was either hot or cold - never temperate!  It cycled through all the temperatures no matter what you set the taps to.  Unless you wanted cold not yet good enough weather for that.    St Kilda I was really excited about going to the markets on Sunday as I assumed they would be like the Freemantle Markets.  However, there were only about 20 tents and if you discount the food/drink ones it wasn't many.  I assume the problem was an IronMan competition being held along the promenade and the main beach road was totally shut.  This being said it was lovely to watch and a relaxing way to spend a Sunday.  The main pier is having a $52m revamp and was blocked off so penguin watching also wasn't an option.  To be honest it was too cold anyway us we didn't pack ...
