Here we go : Brassall to Tambo
The 1st of the month always seems to be a good time to start something. Car all packed so we set off for Roma - our first night stop on our adventure around Queensland.
Nat told us that Toowoomba had a flower festival for the month of September and would be a lovely place to stop on our way through. She was not wrong. I took a photo of one of the planned gardens as when I took a picture of the real thing I could not get it all in - even though I was stood on a viewing platform. We only went to 1 of the 5 or so parks in Toowoomba and it was still really busy even though the festival had finished. I hope you like the pictures.
After we left Toowoomba we drove straight to Roma. We didn't see much of Roma at all as we were shattered.
All of this section of our journey is on the A2 and like our A roads it is generally single lane but that is fine as the majority of the time you are the only car on your section of the road. The things you see most of are road trains (and boy are they big - my grandson would love them!) and dead kangaroos. You generally see roadkill every 5km or so - quite sad. We also saw wild emus, kangaroos and cowboys rounding up their herd of cattle. However the coolest sight was seeing a truck exercising his horse which was running along the side of the truck being led by a piece of rope. Never have your camera handy when you need it !!
We left Roma bright and early as our next stop was Tambo and there was a chicken race at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel (which is the oldest licensed establishment in Central Western Outback Australia). What a lovely old town Tambo is. Apparently they are the home of the Tambo Teddy which are world famous - who knew. Our only problem was we arrived on Bank Holiday Monday and all the museums and information centre were shut. However we got a booklet from outside the information centre which took you on a walkabout tour of the town, which we did.
David always considers me the "snob", however staying at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel, I think bothered him more than me. When you only pay $57 for your room for the night your expectations need to be low. However, it was clean, I got a lovely "hot" shower (he didn't) in the communal bathroom and the food was great. $10 for sausages, mash and peas. Great value all round.
So to the chicken racing, I really don't want to say too much about it in case any of you ever come - which we would highly recommend. It was incredibly good fun, the chickens are great and the proceeds go to a local children's charity. What a great night. The "hulk" won - yes the green chicken.
Next is Longreach where we will be staying for 2 nights and so will be a new post.
A final picture for the grand kids - look who were in the park as we had breakfast today in Blackall.

Absolutely beautiful Enjoy ! x
