Yeppoon

Stopped in a cabin in a caravan park just outside Yeppoon which had been recommended to us.  The ladies at the visitors' center were very helpful, suggesting the snorkeling we had already arranged for Sunday.  They then suggested Emu Park and the Caves Karen was very interested in already.  They helped us book the caves for Monday.  We then drove to Emu Park via the marina to check we new where to go on Sunday.  Emu Park and the drive via the scenic route was lovely.  We felt the Anzac walk was brilliant and the glass artwork really helped you see what it must have been like on many a beach landing in the Pacific during WWI and WWII.  The coolest thing which we tried to video but to no success was the ship pipes which sing with the wind.






Sunday off to the Keppel Islands - what a treat but confirmed we are not as fit as we used to be.  Scotty and our co-day trippers on the ‘Keppel Explorer’ were great helping Karen and I when we were silly enough to try swimming against the current.  Karen and I have done a bit of snorkeling now around the world and cannot remember when we have seen such diverse colours in the coral and different types.  If you ever get to Yeppoon, please look up Scotty and his day trips out to the Keppel Islands on the “Keppel Explorer”; you will not be disappointed.


On Monday we went to the Capricorn Caves we have videos of this for you to see when you come round to look through all the pictures we have not included here.  Karen was very brave and did not run when a tree snake was pointed out to us, before we were shown round these amazing caves. 



Left Yeppoon via 1770.  Yes, we know its out on a peninsula and not on the route to anywhere but what a lovely place to live and visit.  Night stop over at Ned Kelly motel in Maryborough our final night stop before we get back to Nat and Rob’s.


Left Maryborough for Eumundi market and home(temporary).  Had a message from Ben Crispe (longtime family friend – 40+ years) and met up with him at the market; great to catch up with him and find out what was happening with his family.  We all grow up too quickly.  Karen found her necklace she has wanted to go with her bracelet and ring we bought last visit to Eumundi Market and Montville in 2019, so very happy.  They are all prehnite.

We were back home in Brassall for tea.  So endeth Part 2 of our great adventure.

Drive from Canberra to Melbourne

We had originally planned on driving down to Bateman's Bay and following the coast road along to Melbourne.  This would have taken 3-4 days.  As we had missed doing the coast road down from Sydney due to the poor weather we decided to stick to driving through the middle and continuing to enjoy the rolling countryside.  It also meant we could be in Lakes Entrance in 4 hours rather than 2 days.  It was a lovely drive apart from the bucket in the middle of a 3 lane section of motorway which the car in front knocked right in front of us and David had no option but to go directly over it.  Fortunately no damage (or photos) to the car just a heart workout. Lakes Entrance is lovely - just as you would imagine from the name.   This area is lovely and we would comeback again as we didn't have an extra day to travel around it (from choice).  The owner of Albatross Motel, where we were staying, suggested the Eco boat trip and the ferry ride to Raymond Island...

Planning Stage - South

22nd August, 2023 We have still not finalised everything as far as timings are concerned.  We plan to start on Wed, 1st November and want to be in Adelaide for Nat & Maddie (hopefully Rob too) joining us at the start of the school holidays on 6th December.  So here is what we think at the moment.  We have a huge list of things to see and do in each area. Map 1 - The Gold Coast Because the Gold Coast is so close to Brisbane we decided not to spend too much time here as we have the whole of February to revisit areas we want to see in more depth.  We have allowed 6 days to get to Gosford which is approximately 1,000 Km. Map 2 - Sydney On our last trip we were lucky enough to spend a whole week just down by the bridge but we couldn't go to see the Blue Mountains because of terrible fires they were experiencing at the time.  So this time we are rectifying that.  5 days covering approx 500 Km.  This time we are planning on taking the tra...

The Great Ocean Road : Torquay to Apollo Bay

The Great Ocean Road starts at Torquay and ends at Allansford.  There is so much to see and so we are moving along the road every couple of days.  Each move I will do another post to save them getting too long.  We will be visiting most of the points of interest along the route so will try to name them all.  There will be a lot of pictures of the ocean - hopefully you will love the scenery as much as we do. Torquay We arrived in Torquay by 3.00pm and what a lovely place.  Just as picturesque as its UK namesake.  We sat on their equivalent of a promenade and watched the swimmers and surfers for a couple of hours.  We were actually waiting for the fish restaurant to reopen at 5pm but it was a good use of our time!!   We were staying above the town in a chalet a couple had just finished converting in Jan Juc.   It was lovely and we were very sorry to only be staying the 1 night.   We left Torquay on a dismal rainy morning but...
