Harrington - Nearly didn't get there!!
We left Grafton early to have breakfast in Coff's Harbour. To be honest we were underwhelmed; we have been spoilt by amazing scenery and found it too built up for us, so we travelled along the road and found Urunga - what a gem. We ended up walking the whole of their boardwalk and thus staying a couple of hours - another stunning area and one we would happily retire to.
We then continued on to Kempsey and then back down onto the coast road to Crescent Point. Again amazing beaches and had fun watching people trying to catch a wave as they were really strong.
After taking photos at the Queens Head Lookout we saw on Google Maps we could drive along the coast road to the ferry we were getting to Port Macquarie - rather than driving all the way around. Please note Google Maps will not route you along there, are there was a really small sign that said 4WD only. Now we had done the Bloomfield Track which is also a 4WD track. This was a corrugated road so we thought - lets do it. It started to get a little bumpy with lose rocks, twigs, branches and then SAND!! We were, David felt, committed (and he should have been!) so we carried on. It was only 13km but the longest 13km of my life to date. I really don't like being out of control and whilst David is the best driver I know - I was scared. So much so my arms hurt the next day and I had to stop myself having a panic attack. To say we were thrown around is an understatement. The damage to the stuff in the back was testament to this. The water container lost its tap, cutlery got bent, a lid was broken on only one of the IKEA boxes and the contents got wet. We only lost the wheel arch guard totally on the right and partially on the left. Back ones are fine. Electrics on the right were hanging down and the car was covered in sand and spray from the puddles we haven't even mentioned. I have never been so relieved to see a road - could have been any I wouldn't have cared. Then we saw the sign - the wrong end of course! Oh and we did see an awesome Dr Who postbox.
We were glad the ferry was round the corner and we had to sit and wait for 30 minutes as it had just left, This gave us time to laugh and be very grateful the car was still in one piece, as were we. Well David got his true offroad experience so we don't need to do that ever, ever again. Ticked well and truly.
Dinner that night was washed down with a few drinks and we were in bed by 8pm absolutely shattered. What a day to remember. The only sad thing is we didn't have the dashcam to cover it all as it would be amazing to watch in hindsight. The name of the road for anyone who does have a 4WD vehicle is "Point Plomer Road, Limeburners Creek NP".
