Car Bought - Tick

Georgia kindly lent us her car whilst she is still over with us in England and so yesterday we spent the day going from car showroom to car showroom.  After 4 hours they all started to blurr together but we did have a firm favourite.  For a change David wouldn't be tempted to increase the budget!!  

As usual we ended up back at the first garage.  After the test drive of a Toyota Rav4 and a Kluger it was the latter that came out the winner.  Our first criteria was comfort and it won hands down.   After we paid the deposit we realised the remaining balance was $2,000 less than the ticket price.  David checked what the outstanding balance was and when confirmed we both smiled and didn't question the price drop but both thought - result!!



Car home.  We ended up with the garage throwing in another 6 month's registration so the car came in at $2,500 under budget.  David is delighted😀 We do now need to park old school with no sensors or cameras but at least parking spaces in Australia are much bigger hehe.

Drive from Canberra to Melbourne

We had originally planned on driving down to Bateman's Bay and following the coast road along to Melbourne.  This would have taken 3-4 days.  As we had missed doing the coast road down from Sydney due to the poor weather we decided to stick to driving through the middle and continuing to enjoy the rolling countryside.  It also meant we could be in Lakes Entrance in 4 hours rather than 2 days.  It was a lovely drive apart from the bucket in the middle of a 3 lane section of motorway which the car in front knocked right in front of us and David had no option but to go directly over it.  Fortunately no damage (or photos) to the car just a heart workout. Lakes Entrance is lovely - just as you would imagine from the name.   This area is lovely and we would comeback again as we didn't have an extra day to travel around it (from choice).  The owner of Albatross Motel, where we were staying, suggested the Eco boat trip and the ferry ride to Raymond Island...

Daintree National Park

I changed the tyre so off of the Daintree ferry.  Lovely trip if you can see from the last post.  We could not; as it is a flatbed car ferry and we were in the middle of the middle row.  Over the river car travelling well on the spare.  Decided to go to our overnight accommodation rather than into the next town - Daintree River Lodge.  On arrival our lovely host suggested an early morning boat trip from the jetty right next to the hotel down the Daintree river.  Trip booked we settled in for the night.   The Daintree river trip was great.  Saw lots of crocodiles and was pleased I made Karen come off the rampway last night.  Even better all four tyres still OK but off to Mossman for a tyre company.  Arrived and the machines were all over the car damage tyre checked.  No chance for a repair so two new tyres on the front best two on the back and final good tyre moved to the spare rim.  All done and back on the road in un...

Townsville and Magnetic Island

Townsville has the best esplanade we have come across in all our travels so far.  Lovely seeing people actually using the gym facilities and outdoor swimming pool.  They have the best children's (<10) free waterpark I have ever seen which includes some high star rated all inclusive hotels.  Loads of seating and people of all ages used it from dawn till dusk. This should have been the view from our hotel room (only better as would have been higher!!)  but when we arrived, the receptionist couldn't find our booking.  I(we) had managed to book Fri and Sat 27-28 Oct.  How I have no idea.  The receptionist was amazing.  The hotel was full booked.  However, they had a chalet at the back of the car park which they only let for weekly bookings.  She took pity on my stupidity and offered it to us for the two nights.  It was more expensive than our original room but beggars cant be choosers.  Although it had no view it was awesome and...
