Daintree National Park
I changed the tyre so off of the Daintree ferry. Lovely trip if you can see from the last post. We could not; as it is a flatbed car ferry and we were in the middle of the middle row. Over the river car travelling well on the spare. Decided to go to our overnight accommodation rather than into the next town - Daintree River Lodge. On arrival our lovely host suggested an early morning boat trip from the jetty right next to the hotel down the Daintree river. Trip booked we settled in for the night.
The Daintree river trip was great. Saw lots of crocodiles and was pleased I made Karen come off the rampway last night. Even better all four tyres still OK but off to Mossman for a tyre company. Arrived and the machines were all over the car damage tyre checked. No chance for a repair so two new tyres on the front best two on the back and final good tyre moved to the spare rim. All done and back on the road in under an hour. Price less than we paid for one tyre back in the UK. I (David) love this country and even better the car is still under my original budget!
Karen and I then went to Mossman Gorge. Unfortunately we didn't go up as we thought it was $80 each and there was no-one to ask at the desk. We later learnt that there is a council run bus up for a few $ - never mind a trip for next time.
Then we went to the beach at Port Douglas. A lovely area for the wealthy. We had been warned not to stop there as would cost an arm and a leg. The lookout was gorgeous and Karen has used the picture on her FB page but called it Cape Tribulation - oops.
The Great Ocean Drive (Route 44) from Port Douglas down to Cairns is beautiful. We stopped off at Palm Cove - another stunning beach. We then drove up the Kuranda range to our accommodation for our week in Cairn's and the surrounding area. We thought Atherton and Cooktown had some steep hills but obviously driving up to Kuranda was just as windy and steep which is to be expected when we realised the Atherton Tablelands were the other side of the mountain.
