Mount Gambier to Adelaide

As it was such a nice morning when we left Mount Gambier we decided to go down to the coast and see Carpenter Rocks, Canunda National Park and Cape Banks Lighthouse as just below the lighthouse is the Pisces Star Shipwreck.

Castle Rocks

Castle Rocks was a lovely small town with a sheltered cove.  There was only 1 Yute in the car park waiting for the lobster/crab boat that was coming in.  It was interesting watching them load their pots from the bigger boat into a smaller one to bring them ashore.

Pisces Star Shipwreck

Unfortunately it wasn't low tide when we arrived and so you could only see some of the shipwreck sticking out of the water.  We decided not to go down and have a look.

Cape Banks Lighthouse

We were so glad we came down because as we were looking out from the lookout at the lighthouse, a seal swam past.  David even walked down to the beach for that and got soaking wet feet but didn't care.  It turned out there were 3 of them which was great fun to watch.

Only two of them climbed out onto the rocks to bask in the sun whilst the other stayed swimming below.

Lake MacIntyre

To eat our lunch we stopped just outside Millicent at a lovely spot called Lake MacIntyre.

Nora Creina

We wanted some time on a beach and so we booked ourselves a sun shack in some sand dunes between Beachport and Robe.  It was lovely - 3 days of peace and quiet - and we were lucky with the weather if a little too windy; but you can't have everything.  On our second night David got bitten by a spider which added some much NOT needed excitement.  It turned to be a white-tailed spider (which I caught in a glass) to show people.  They aren't venomous and he was of course fine but it made us very wary for a bit and really vigilant.  Considering where we were staying we did know spiders were going to be par for the course!!

Sadly Saturday came around far too soon and we left at 6am to drive to Adelaide airport to pick up Nat and Madie who were joining us for 5 days.  Of course it was raining for most of the drive so no great pictures sadly.  No I am not complaining as much better it rained whilst we were in the car than when we got to Adelaide 😀.
